If your family has decided to start sleep training and you are using the Extinction Method aka Cry-it-out approach, then you should let your overtired baby cry it out while your sleep training rules are considered "on". You want to let them cry-it-out because the point of this approach is to have very clear rules that are easy for your baby or toddler to understand. If you go to them after they have been crying for some time, it could confused them and extend the process longer or create new issues. Instead, it's best to either let them cry it out, or choose a different approach that is less strict on rules but fits better with your family's values. The Cry-It-Out approach is a great approach, but there are many other great ones as well. At Lovebug, we teach three approaches.
